In this image from the Hudson River Maritime Museum archives, we see a postcard, circa 1905-1910, depicting “Lower Broadway, Kingston, N.Y”. On the left, now stands Mariner’s Harbor, which formerly housed the offices of the Daily Freeman. Down the street, we see The Mansion House, which now houses Savona’s restaurant on the street level. Buildings on the right side of the street were demolished during the “urban renewal” era.

Scenes such as these will be displayed in the museum’s upcoming 2013 exhibition, tentatively entitled “Rondout: A Riverport.” For more information about the museum and its archives, visit www.hrmm.org.

The museum’s season officially ended on Sunday, Nov. 4; however, the museum essentially closed on Oct. 29 preparing for the impact of Hurricane Sandy, which caused water damage to the museum. However, we still will participate in this year’s “Sinterklaas” celebrations with a “Crowns and Branches” workshop on Friday, Nov. 23 from 1-4 p.m., and a limited open house on Saturday, Nov. 24 from 11-5 p.m. For more information, call (845) 338-0071 or visit www.hrmm.org.
