Thank you, Kingston

I’m writing to thank the voters of Kingston for your support during the recent mayoral election. Throughout this campaign I have emphasized that we must do better for the residents and business owners of this city. My administration will insist on transparency of our government operations, accountability with a focus on results from every department of our city and a strong emphasis on improving the quality of life for our residents, which is crucial to the city’s revitalization. The voters have demanded nothing less.

As part of my transition, I am scheduling a series of town hall-style listening sessions to carry forward the insightful dialog I began with the residents of Kingston while going door-to-door. Please join me and participate with your ideas to move our city forward. I ask for your continued support as together we meet the challenges ahead and seize the opportunities our community has to offer.

Shayne Gallo, Mayor-elect, City of Kingston

Notes for Shayne Gallo

Governments should not try to create jobs. They should control what they must to encourage and not turn off existing and potential residents, businesses and visitors.

The monthly Chamber of Commerce meetings at the Holiday Inn has 200-plus attendees. Shows at the Bardavon/UPAC theaters, athletic events at Dietz Stadium, waterfront events bring in bodies and brains. There are opportunities to turn them on or turn them off. Brain gain or brain drain?

Let’s get some uniforms at all these events directing traffic and parking. It is not important if they are paid from our county, state or federal taxes. No matter if they are called police, fire, DPW, paid or volunteer.

The trash on the streets has to be aggressively picked up and all the restrooms have all got to be improved.

The mayor has a take-home vehicle but the Town of Ulster supervisor or the county executive doesn’t.

Nice story, but do we really need to rescue llamas from Montana?

We must have better delivery of essential services at less cost.
