Chili resonates this time of year. Is it the name, or just the food’s warming attributes? Or could it be the fact that Women’s Studio Workshop of Rosendale’s annual Chili Bowl Fiesta, where handmade ceramic vessels are sold with a host of free chili samplers created for them by area restaurants, has had a Pavlovian effect and trained us all to start drooling in late February?
It all occurs, for the 15th time, at the Rosendale Recreation Center on Route 32 next Saturday, February 25, with the fabulously fun Dog on Fleas providing music to pump up the event’s fiesta mood. Why tell you about all this so early? Hey, when the actual bowl-and-tumbler portion of the event has become so popular that its 2-to-4 p.m. opening hours are now not free, to accommodate crowds vying for the best purchases, it makes sense to plan one’s assault. Right?
Things then run for free from 4 to 7 p.m. – and no worry about missing on any sumptuous victuals: More than 20 local chefs and restaurants will be donating more than 50 gallons of both meaty and vegetarian/vegan chili for everyone. Funds go to support the various programs and exhibits that have made Women’s Studio Workshop, located on Binnewater Lane above Rosendale, such a regional cultural stalwart for over 35 years now.
