The Saugerties Girl Scout Council marked the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts with a re-dedication ceremony at United Methodist Church on Monday, March 12.
Girl Scouts from Saugerties recited the Girl Scout Promise at 7 p.m., the exact time that Girl Scout troops across the country did the same. On Sunday, March 18, an ecumenical service was held at St. Mary of the Snow Church. Girl Scouts of all faiths prayed together and celebrated the joy of sisterhood.
The prayer service was led by deacon Donald Trees of St. Mary of the Snow Church, Reverend Duane Buddle of Saugerties United Methodist Church, and Rabbi Michael Rothbaum of Woodstock Jewish Congregation. Troop 9 coordinated the flag ceremony, and town supervisor Kelly Myers presented a Town Board Resolution commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts. After the service, the Girl Scouts gathered in St. Mary’s hall for music, cake and a magic show. In recognition of her contributions to the Saugerties council, Isabelle DeCelle was invited to blow out the candles on the 100th anniversary cake.
