Supervisor
Village Trustee Kelly Meyers defeated incumbent supervisor Greg Helsmoortel to secure the Independence Party line, 39 to 33. In addition to appearing on the Independence Party line in November, Meyers will also be on the Republican line.
Helsmoortel, all of whose votes in the Independence primary came via write-in will appear on the Democratic and Working Families lines in the general election.
Town Board
Incumbent board members Fred Costello and Leeanne Thornton will appear on the Independence Party line thanks to victories in Tuesday’s primary. Costello with 49 votes, and Thornton with 46 out distanced their rivals, Pamela Riggins who received 28 votes and Michael Vallarella who garnered 7 votes.
Both Costello and Thornton are Independence Party members and received their party’s endorsement but were challenged by Riggins and Vallarella in a right to ballot contest for the Independence Party primary.
All four candidates will run in the November General election and they will be joined by Republican nominee Joe Roberti Sr.
Highway Superintendent
Darren Chlud, who ran a right to ballot contest for the Independence Party nomination defeated Douglas Myer, 36 votes to 32.
They will both be on the November ballot on other lines as well, with Chlud on the Working Families and Democratic lines, while Myer will be on the Republican and Conservative lines.
County Legislature
In the District 1 race, Mary Wawro defeated the Republican Party’s nominee Terrance Valk, which throws him off his party’s line in the fall race, 92-54. She defeated Valk in the Conservative Party primary 18-6. However, Valk defeated Wawro for the Independence Party nomination.
In District 2 longtime county legislator Robert Aiello beat Walter Frey, who is in his first year in the legislature, 86-37 for the Republican Party line in the November election. However, Frey will be on the fall ballot on the Conservative Party line.
