Winter is coming, cold temperatures are here, and many in the Catskills are already facing financial challenges in heating their homes. On Dec. 15, the Catskills Alliance for Housing & Preservation (CAHP) will open applications for its new Warm Neighbors Fund, targeted to residents of Olive and Shandaken.
The program offers $500 per qualifying household. CAHP aims to raise at least $20,000 through donations (the first $5,000 raised will be matched by two community donors). Amid steadily rising energy costs, the goal is to help dozens of lower-income residents stay warm without breaking the bank.
CAHP is a resident-led nonprofit serving Olive and Shandaken with the stated mission of developing “more workforce, senior and middle-income housing, preserve the housing that currently exists, and provide programs designed to help homeowners maintain their homes and remain there as they age.”
