On the afternoon of October 29, state troopers from the Ellenville barracks responded to a single-vehicle ATV crash on Berme Road in the Town of Wawarsing. The crash happened aroun 4 p.m. and involved a 2025 Can-Am ATV heading southbound. According to investigators, the operator, identified as 33-year-old Jose Aldarondo of Ellenville, lost control of the vehicle and struck a guiderail. Further investigation revealed that the ATV had previously been reported stolen.
Aldarondo was taken into custody at the scene. Although he sustained injuries in the crash, he declined medical treatment. Authorities transported him to the state police station in Ellenville, where he was processed and formally charged. The charges include two Class D felonies—criminal mischief in the second degree and grand larceny in the third degree. He also faces an unclassified misdemeanor for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class A misdemeanor for attempting to leave the scene of a personal injury accident, and several traffic violations.
The following day, October 30, Aldarondo was arraigned in the Town of New Paltz Court. He was released on his own recognizance and is expected to return to court at a later date.
