A significant amount of ecstasy, cocaine and fentanyl was seized at a traffic stop in New Paltz on the morning of Sep. 29, state police said.
The bust began when a state trooper observed a 2025 Nissan heading northbound on I-87 in the town of New Paltz in alleged violation of traffic laws.
State Police initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Robert Brown, 39, of the Bronx. During the stop, troopers discovered that Brown was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and that the Nissan had previously been reported stolen.
Brown was taken into custody without incident. A search conducted during the arrest uncovered approximately 101 grams of cocaine and 38 grams of MDMA in his possession. Further examination of the vehicle led to the discovery of an additional 2.89 grams of fentanyl.
Following his arrest, Brown was transported to the State Police barracks in Highland for processing. He was charged with multiple drug-related felonies, including criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree involving hallucinogens, three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance—with intent to sell, with a prior conviction, and involving a narcotic—and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property, in the third and fourth degrees. He also faces misdemeanor charges for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and three separate counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia involving dilutants, packaging materials, and scales. In addition, he was cited for various traffic law violations.
Brown was remanded without bail to the Ulster County Jail for centralized arraignment. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 1, 2025, in the Town of New Paltz Court.
