For the second time in less than a week, a person jumped from the Kingston–Rhinecliff Bridge, this time just after 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 21. The incident forced the closure of Route 199 west of Route 9G in both directions and restricted traffic across the span, according to local officials. The timing compounded congestion already heavy from visitors traveling to the 179th Dutchess County Fair.
Traffic delays stretched along the bridge approaches for much of the afternoon as responders worked at the scene. No further details about today’s jumper have been released.
The jump comes just three days after an unidentified woman died following an early morning fall from the same bridge on Monday, August 18. Her body was recovered later that morning near Charles River Park.
