The 23rd annual Saugerties Artists Studio Tour was held on the weekend of August 9 and 10. Forty-five artists were featured who opened their studios to the public. A map with the addresses of the artists’ studios was provided and distributed by local businesses or by request.

Visitors explored diverse art forms, such as painting, pottery, sculpture, ceramics and fiber art. There were works for sale and some studios featured demonstrations. Some artists had gardens that were open for the weekend.

Artist Anne Leith in her studio. She calls herself a painter of places. For many years she has painted plein-air oil paintings. Landscape is her primary subject matter, and in her in-studio practice she often paints imaginary places that go beyond the “real” and crosses into fantasy.

Stephen Whisler has been an artist for 50 years, starting in the 1970’s with the Plant Works series of photographed performances with plants, to his current sculptural work using abstracted parts of the body.

Artist Daniel Gelfand has been a painter and printmaker since 1967. He has exhibited his work extensively in the Hudson Valley with numerous one-person shows and has used his skills to print for local artists as well.
