Ulster County residents can’t seem to catch a break from stifling summer weather, and Canadian wildfires aren’t doing us any favors.
Across the whole Mid-Hudson region, an air quality health advisory has been issued for Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Locals and visitors are advised to avoid spending too much time outside, especially if they have existing medical conditions that are exacerbated by poor air quality. The warning is widespread, and extends to ten US states in total.
The problem is large quantities of “fine particulate matter” which has been produced by wildfires raging in our neighbor country to the north. The blaze has proven very difficult to fight as it is consuming vast tracts of remote, unmanaged wilderness.
