Reid Kappler has been charged with 18 felony counts of rape in the third degree, allegedly victimizing two female students during his former role as the wrestling coach for Saugerties High School.
The 32-year-old, who currently resides in Connecticut, appeared in court on Thursday, July 24 and entered a “not guilty” plea. He received no bail and was sent to Ulster County Jail.
An Ulster County District Attorney’s Office press release reads:
“This defendant took advantage of two children who looked up to him as their coach. He abused the trust of the community by engaging in sexual crimes with two students. This behavior undermines the trust of the community and is never tolerated.”
Saugerties Superindendent of Schools Daniel Erceg appeared in the press release to assure the community that he is aware of the situation and continues to make student safety his highest priority.
