Update: Officials said the Rip Van Winkle sustained “some damage” and that the unidentified driver and passenger were taken to HealthAlliance Hospital after the crash.
A bizarre accident occurred in Kingston at approximately 6:45pm on Sunday, July 13, when a car careened down the steep hill at the the foot of Broadway, passed through an iron gate and plowed directly into the side of the Rip Van Winkle boat.
A witness who was dining at Mariner’s Harbor reported hearing a huge crash, and after walking to the scene, saw an elderly man with his wife outside the vehicle, the assumed driver and passenger, respectively. The witness said no one appeared to be injured.
Firefighters subsequently dislodged and extracted the vehicle from the side of the boat. Further details on the accident or the extent of damage have not yet been made public.
The Rip Van Winkle is a popular cruise craft that ferries tourists and locals around the Hudson. It was moored at the time of the crash.
