On Monday, June 2, the City of Kingston Police Department took Faisal Saif, 37, into custody at Kennedy International Airport. His arrest followed his detention by Homeland Security, based on a warrant issued by Kingston City Court for a felony charge of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree. After being transferred to Kingston Police, Saif was processed at police headquarters and held pending arraignment.
The following day, June 3, Saif appeared in Kingston City Court. He was released with instructions to report for pretrial supervision.
The arrest stems from an investigation initiated by Kingston Police on February 15, 2024, into a reported sexual assault that allegedly took place the same day at Rondout Market. The suspect was identified as Saif, and the reported victim was a 28-year-old individual. Following the start of the investigation, Saif is believed to have left the country, traveling to Yemen. As the case progressed and further evidence emerged, formal charges were filed and a warrant was issued.
Authorities continue to investigate the matter and are seeking additional information.
