On May 28, New York State Police stopped a 2013 Volvo on the New York State Thruway in New Paltz for multiple traffic violations. The vehicle was occupied by Jorge L. Leyva, 36, of the Bronx, and Alexandra M. Rocheleau, 35, of Richmond, Vermont.
During the stop, troopers conducted a search that led to the discovery of over 260 grams of cocaine on Rocheleau and cocaine residue inside the vehicle. Both individuals were arrested and taken to the State Police barracks in Highland.
Leyva and Rocheleau were both charged with felony drug offenses. Leyva faces additional charges including two misdemeanor counts of drug possession, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and multiple traffic violations. Rocheleau was also cited for facilitating the unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a traffic infraction.
They were arraigned in New Paltz Town Court on May 29 and held without bail at Ulster County Jail, with a court date pending.
