The 23rd annual New Paltz Earth Day Fair took place on Saturday, April 26, at the Reformed Church of New Paltz, 92 Huguenot Street, successfully adapting to the rainy weather by moving indoors. Despite the rain, the event was a hit, running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The festivities included a variety of free, family friendly activities, live music and healthy food — showcasing both beloved features from previous years, like a tour of UCAT’s electric bus, as well as new attractions such as County Waste’s touch-a-truck and the climate anxiety booth. Local companies and organizations shared valuable information about sustainable living, and visitors had the opportunity to converse with local electric car owners and energy experts about reducing their carbon footprints and increasing home efficiency. The Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency provided insights on plastic pollution and distributed reusable tiffins to promote eco-friendly practices.
Attendees also enjoyed strolls down Huguenot Street, despite the wet weather, and viewed the United Nations. Musical entertainment filled the indoor venue with performances from Spirit of Thunderheart, Betty and the Boomers, Bloom, and the Rosendale Improvement Association Brass Band and Social Club, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The fair was sponsored by New Paltz Interfaith Earth Action, the Caring for Creation Committee of the Reformed Church of New Paltz and the New Paltz Climate Action Coalition.
