A Poughkeepsie resident has been charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors in connection with a 2024 car crash in New Paltz that resulted in the death of her infant daughter and caused serious injuries to another passenger.
Jaimie Rivera, 26, was indicted by an Ulster County grand jury after an extensive police investigation. She is facing felony charges that include second-degree vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and second-degree vehicular assault. Additionally, she is charged with several misdemeanors, including endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree assault, and driving while ability impaired by drugs.
The incident occurred on the morning of October 28, 2024. Authorities reported that Rivera was operating a 2007 Saturn northbound on Libertyville Road when she allegedly attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. After returning to the lane, she reportedly lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and collided head-on with a tree.
Her four-month-old daughter suffered critical injuries and was initially airlifted to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie before being transferred to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where she later died. Rivera and a 26-year-old male passenger also sustained serious injuries and were taken to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie for treatment.
