Who trashed Rough Draft’s outdoor dining area?
In a Facebook post earlier today, the popular uptown cafe and bookstore shared a photo of their “parklet” area, its barricades smashed and benches overturned.
No suspects have been identified. The Kingston Police Department is investigating, and neighbors are combing through surveillance footage.
Outdoor dining was popular during the pandemic, but post-pandemic, temporary allowances for outdoor dining expired. The city’s new outdoor dining regulations made it significantly more complicated and expensive to construct and maintain these areas, and most subsequently disappeared.
The good news: Rough Draft plans to restore their outdoor seating as soon as possible, preserving one of Kingston’s most attractive places to sit with a cup of coffee.
