A dozen Kingston police officers have volunteered to expand their regular patrol duties, forming a Community Response Team (CRM). This group will work together to surveil the city, pore over data, and gather information while using “evidence-based policing techniques” to identify “‘hot spots’ in the community where additional services may be needed.”
“We know the best way to have a safer city is to work with the community to meet our goals,” wrote Mayor Noble in a statement.
“This innovative approach developed by Chief Tinti and our leadership brings together the best resources we have, which are our hardworking and knowledgeable officers of the Kingston Police Department,” wrote Noble.
“This team will allow for information to seamlessly be shared across shifts and across jurisdictions with our continued partnership with the Town of Ulster Police Department. My administration is always looking for new ways to help our community and with the launch of our new Community Response Team, we are going to make further strides in ensuring our community is safe for all who live, work, or visit here.”
Kingston Police Chief Egidio Tinti emphasized the team’s focus on specific locations selected through careful analysis and preponderance of evidence.
“By investigating and monitoring areas that are deemed problematic by data and assessing the needs,” he said, “we can then work across departments and agencies to solve problems.”
