You can’t keep a good smokehouse down.
After longtime Smokehouse of the Catskills owners Mike and Heidi Ferraro retired in September of 2024, the future of the popular Saugerties butcher shop on Route 212 was uncertain. Now, just a few months later, a new owner group will step up to the plate and reopen the store on Thursday, Jan. 23.
The business has been acquired by Joe Ferraro (cousin of the previous owners), his son Jim Ferraro, John Roessner, and Jana Blazicek, who also own Elna Magnetics in Saugerties.
Improvements are planned around sales and marketing, but the store will otherwise maintain its traditional and time-tested line of sausages, smoked meats, cheeses and other foodstuffs. With a stellar 4.9-star rating on Google Reviews, maintaining the status quo should be good news to local meat lovers.
Initial store hours will be Thursday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
