While Hudson Valley residents in higher elevations may have already seen their first snow, down from the mountains, most of us are still waiting for anything to accumulate.
The wait may be over this Thursday, Dec. 5, as both local and national forecasters predict the area will be hit with an “Alberta Clipper”, a meteorological term for a fast-moving, low-pressure weather system that originates in the Canadian province of Alberta. These systems typically move southeastward across the Canadian prairies and into the northern United States, especially affecting the Midwest and Northeast regions like ours.
Hudson Valley Weather is predicting that a weak storm system will move into our area between late Wednesday and early Thursday, dropping two inches of snow or less on lower elevations and up to four inches in higher ones. Wind speeds are expected to rise in tandem.
The storm is expected to be a short and spotty one, with most accumulation happening to the east of us. Nonetheless, it might be time to fish that snow brush out of the basement.
