Mayor Steven T. Noble recently announced a holiday treat for Kingston residents and visitors: free two-hour parking in municipal lots and at meters from Saturday, Dec. 14, through Jan. 1, 2025. This generous gesture in a city known for its zealous issuance of parking tickets aims to boost local shopping and bolster Kingston’s diverse small business community.
The decree coincides with the Kingston Shop Hop event on December 14, where the city’s Uptown, Midtown, and Rondout business districts will showcase their wares. “By providing free two-hour parking, we’re making it even easier for folks to shop local and support our incredible small businesses,” Mayor Noble declared.
Kingston’s hard-working parking staff will take this opportunity to shift their focus to meter repairs and maintenance during. However, enforcement of critical safety violations such as blocking fire hydrants, parking in handicap spots, double parking, and expired inspections will continue.
Meanwhile in Saugerties, residents and visitors were already spotting the orange plastic bags covering parking meters, inviting them to have “Happy Holidays” and keep their free parking to two hours maximum.
