New York City’s congestion pricing program, the first of its kind in the U.S., was initially to have charged a toll of $15 during daytime hours for passenger vehicles driving in Manhattan south of 60th Street starting June 30. New York governor Kathy Hochul quashed the plan a few days before its implementation.
According to multiple media sources, this Thursday Hochul will announce that the state will resurrect the plan with a base charge of $9 for passenger cars. “They felt like $9 is where they could land,” one source said.
The state is expected to move quickly to implement the new plan. Donald Trump had promised to “terminate” congestion pricing during his first week in presidential office.
