Three Woodstock officials have written state attorney general Letitia James a letter urging her assistance in including Woodstock’s 10 Church property in her legal actions against Joseph Karolys. They claim they can prove contaminated material was brought in from the Saugerties sites for which James has been successfully prosecuting Karolys.
As evidence of their contention that “there is a clear paper trail confirming their position, town supervisor Bill McKenna, councilmember Anula Courtis and temporary town conservation commission chair Erin Moran attach Shandaken court transcripts, dated January 27, 2022, in which Joseph Karolys and the Conigliaros, owners of the property, “all stated under oath that the material came from Mr. Karolys’ property on Route 212 in Saugerties.”
“This issue has caused great concern in our community,” their letter says. “In addition to potential impact to the immediate neighborhood’s aquifer, there is the potential to impact the town aquifer. We are making every attempt to have our town included in the Saugerties Karolys case. We need assistance from your office to do this.”
