The DEC and local leaders announced $1.075 million in a dozen grants to Catskill communities on April 24. The grants come from the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s “Smart Growth” program, which supports capital projects and community development initiatives that balance environmental protection, economic development and community livability.
The Town of Shandaken received two of those grants, one for $125,000 to rehabilitate Glenbrook Park and the other of $80,000 to update the town’s comprehensive plan.
Across the border in Delaware County, the Village of Margaretville got $50,000 in state money to update its comprehensive plan, while the town in which it is located, Middletown, was awarded the same amount for updating its own comprehensive plan.
