“Saving the planet, one acre at a time,” proposes Common Ground, the new documentary kicking off first-ever food justice film series and new community collaboration between the Rosendale Theatre, High Falls Food Co-Op, several farmer-activists, and the Soil to Soul program–a part of the work of the Holistic Health Community. The series will feature three films, each described as dynamic, important films about different aspects of our world’s food system. Common Ground is the highly anticipated sequel to the documentary, Kiss the Ground, which proposes that by regenerating the world’s soils, we can completely and rapidly stabilize Earth’s climate, restore lost ecosystems and create abundant food supplies. This documentary was viewed by over 1 billion people globally and inspired the USDA to put $20 billion toward soil health. It won awards in both the Tribeca Film Festival and Boston Film Festival.
After the film screening, a group of local farmers and activists will form a panel to discuss their needs to support the regenerative ideals the film illustrates as well as present ideas, facts, and reflections after each film to help the audience digest and understand the information. The panelists include Jesse Goldfarb of Tributary Farm in High Falls; farmer, attorney, writer, and activist Andi Novick, environmental educator, naturalist, farmer and teacher Creek Iverson of Kingston’s Seed Song Farm; and the director of the Holistic Health Community’s Soil to Soul program Diana Seiler.
Other film series presented by the Rosendale Theatre in the past include Saturday Creature Features, Sunday Silents, Summer Retro Series, Classic Film Series, Filmmaker National Theatre Live, and Music Fan Series.
