On August 8 at 8:33 a.m., Saugerties Police responded to Advance Auto located at 330 Route 212 for a report of counterfeit $100 bill. Following an investigation, police were led to suspect that 36-year-old Michael R. Fay of Catskill had passed a forged $100 bill to purchase merchandise from the store.
On August 21 at 11:03 p.m., Saugerties Police responded to a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash on West Bridge Street. While investigating the crash, the vehicle operator was identified as Michael R. Fay, whom police had been looking for. Fay was taken into custody and charged with the felony of third-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and the misdemeanor of petit larceny.
Fay was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Saugerties Justice Court on August 28 to answer his charges.
