Legendary drummer Bernard Purdie has made a habit of the Falcon. The man who laid down grooves for more or less everyone brings his hot band to Marlboro’s jewel of a venue again and again. Not many drummers have a groove named after them, but Bernard’s complex “Purdie shuffle” has propelled hits by Led Zeppelin (“Fool in the Rain”), Toto (“Rosanna”) and many others. It is hard to play it quite as effortlessly as Bernard does, however, even for the likes of John Bonham and Jeff Porcaro – both of whom seem to miss some of the internal action of the author’s version. Come catch the real deal the Falcon on Saturday, August 11 at 7 p.m.
As always, there is no cover charge at the Falcon, but direct-to-artist donation is the model here, and it works for everyone. For more information, visit www.liveatthefalcon.com. The Falcon is located at 1348 Route 9W in Marlboro.
