Saugerties honors vets on Memorial Day

Traditional Memorial Day service Saugerties American Legion Post 72 will conduct a Memorial Day service on the traditional day, Wednesday, May 30 at 6 p.m. The Saugerties Community Band will play a few selections one half hour before the start of the service and throughout the program. Matthew Russell, commander of the recently rejuvenated VFW Post 5034, will be the guest speaker. The location is on the Post grounds, adjacent to Partition Street in the village. Following the service, the military museum will be open for guided tours. Refreshments will be served in the banquet hall. Stallions exhibition to recognize vets on Memorial Day An exhibition game between the Saugerties Stallions and the Capital City Reds from Ottawa Canada will take place at Cantine Field on Memorial Day, May 30; game time is at 7:05, and local veterans will be recognized at the beginning of the game. According to Stallions owner Kevin Hinchey, proceeds from the game’s entrance fee will go to the victims of the recent Russell Street fire.
