It was a somber and moving occasion as local veterans and sixth-grade students who had relatives that had served or are serving in foreign wars told their stories in honor of Memorial Day at the New Paltz Middle School this past Monday.

Middle school student Aki Densmore talked about her great grandfather’s service to our country during the ceremony.

Special guests included New Paltz Veterans of Foreign Wars, members of the New Paltz Fire Department and members of the New Paltz Police Department

Former band director Charlie Seymour developed this program at the middle school, where students are taught and experience the true meaning of Memorial Day. The middle school music department continues the tradition each year.

New Paltz Middle School Band Director Sonja Nosovsky conducts student musicians in a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner
New Paltz Veterans of Foreign Wars, members of the New Paltz Fire Department and members of the New Paltz Police Department were all invited as special guests
