Preview of Sailin’ Around Saugerties summer public art exhibit

Saugerties Chamber of Commerce chair (and local artist) Mark Smith putting the finishing touches on his sailboat. The theme is based on the song “My Ship” by Kurt Weil, from the film Lady in the Dark. The hull will be encased in rhinestones and sails will resemble a silk pattern in gold and silver.

Saugerties Performing Arts Factory (SPAF) at 169 Ulster Ave. will host a reception on Sunday, May 20 from 5-7 p.m. to preview the 41 sailboats that will be part of the Sailin’ Around Saugerties public art exhibit. Many of the sailboat artists will be present. The public is invited and admission is free. The installation of the sailboats will begin around town after the preview, to be completed around Memorial Day.
