Voters resoundingly passed the New Paltz Central School District budget today, with yes votes outstripping nays by more than two to one. They also opted to turn out one of the two incumbents.
Board president Michael O’Donnell received the highest number of votes, 1,178, followed by 1,161 for Diana Armstead and 1,114 for Glenn LaPolt. Two-term trustee Brian Cournoyer fell short of the mark with 1,021, followed by challengers Meghan Goodnow and Joe Garcia, with 904 and 734 votes respectively.
“I’m very thankful for the high turnout,” said O’Donnell, adding, “I’m happy that the budget passed.”
Voters approved the $61,270,000 budget with a wide margin of 1, 540 in favor to 582 against. A separate resolution, to spend $480,000 on replacement school buses, passed 1,464 to 644.
LaPolt said of his win, “I’m grateful for the opportunity. I’ll do the best I can, and people should know that as long as I’m at the table, they have a voice.”
Armstead was not immediately available for comment at press time.
