After nearly 50 years in the music business, Bettye LaVette’s 2005 album I’ve Got My Own Hell to Raise introduced the legendary Detroit-raised R & B vocalist to a wider audience for the first time. The record featured songs by contemporary female singer/songwriters including Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Sinéad O’Connor, Lucinda Williams, Joan Armatrading and Dolly Parton. It has been red carpets and Grammy nominations ever since.
