David Miller, former superintendent at Eastern New York Correctional Facility in Napanoch, will speak on prison issues and history during the Town of Lloyd Historical Preservation Society meeting on February 5, 7 p.m., at Vineyard Commons in Highland.
Miller will discuss the dark side of prison life: riots, escapes and disturbances throughout New York State’s prison system. He’ll talk about the infamous Attica riot, the hostage stand-off at Sing-Sing and escapes from several facilities, including Eastern. He’ll examine the historical context of each and share the causes and the details of the incidents that sparked each event, as well as the changes spurred by them.
