Vice crackdown in Saugerties and Port Ewen

A 21-year-old female was struck by a vehicle as she was walking in the crosswalk at the intersection of Plattekill Avenue and Main Street in New Paltz on Wednesday, November 8 at approximately 3:57 p.m.

According to the New Paltz Police Department, the vehicle struck the woman and the driver fled westbound on Main Street. Witnesses provided a description of the vehicle, which was located by a New Paltz officer abandoned in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex.

The driver, Abram Almahri, 18, of New Paltz turned himself in at the New Paltz Police Department a short time later. He was arrested and charged with the leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and several other vehicle and traffic offenses.

The pedestrian was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Almahri was arraigned before New Paltz Town Justice Jonathan Katz and released after posting $2,500 cash bail. He is scheduled to return to court at a later date. The investigation is continuing, and anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call New Paltz police at (845) 255-1323.
