In a poignant turn, Upstate Films in Rhinebeck had scheduled its sneak-peak viewing of Lucky, a new documentary about the beloved actor Harry Dean Stanton, well before the eccentric film-industry outsider passed away last week. The film marks the directorial debut of acclaimed character actor John Carroll Lynch. It is, the advance press says, “at once a love letter to the life and career of Harry Dean Stanton as well as a meditation on mortality, loneliness, spirituality and human connection.”
