When one thinks of an art exhibit, one immediately wishes to enjoy such an event with a glass of some art-appreciating lubricant, nicely prepared food and definitely some good company. If you could stand and gaze, what would you ask the artist? If you were an artist, and your work was on exhibit in your community, what would you like to ask the person checking out your work?

This Saturday, July 29 from 7 p.m.-10:30 p.m., Ole Savannah Southern Table and Bar on the Strand will host a special event, the Art Garten Pop-Up Party, with music, food and works from more than 20 artists. “This is a really unique event and has something for everyone,” said show curator Jasmin Mitchell. Mitchell just graduated with a museum science master’s degree from Johns Hopkins and said she has wanted to cultivate comfortable space for artists and the community to dialogue.

“Ole Savannah wants to help [Downtown] build a welcoming, civic-minded environment that fosters unity with in all members of the community,” said Mitchell. “Ole Savannah welcomes the arts and music community and believes in the idea that it should be accessible to everyone.”

Over 20 artists are participating, with three different bands that will include acoustic and jazz. “There is no particular theme, with in the call for artists I just specified that the art work submitted must be something that the artists feel passionate enough to talk about with guests.” Mitchell said Old Savannah wanted to give the artists and musicians a free outlet to “mix and mingle with in the community” and to promote themselves. Columbia Costume Supply will have costumes on site for fun in a photobooth with a professional photographer to memorialize the antics.
