The Mid-Hudson Athletic League recently honored Saugerties seniors Michelle Melville and James Ball, along with more than 30 other students, as not only outstanding athletes but also excellent in academics.

Two students, one female and one male, from each of the schools within the MHAL were honored at a breakfast ceremony at Diamond Mills in Saugerties.

Michelle Melville will be attending Bucknell University in the fall, where she expects to major in sports psychology. During her time at Saugerties High School she’s maintained a 99.4 grade point average and is ranked ninth in her class.

She is a member of the Key Club, the National Honor Society, and captain of the varsity lacrosse and volleyball teams. She says she will play lacrosse at Bucknell.

James Ball will be attending Hamilton College in the fall, majoring in economics and psychology. He hopes to play football and baseball. During his time in Saugerties, Ball was a three-sport star playing football, wrestling and baseball. He was a captain of all three teams

He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club, and the Student Council.

Ball has maintained a 94.9 grade point average, and is ranked 18th in his class.
