A Saugerties man who was asked to leave a restaurant later threatened patrons with a realistic-looking replica of semi-automatic handgun before being subdued by officers.
The incident happened yesterday at the Hot Rocks Steak House on Rt. 9W in Saugerties. Police said the suspect Eduardo L. Trujillo, 26, of Saugerties, was asked to leave the restaurant by staff after making inappropriate comments and “acting strange.” Trujillo yelled out in the restaurant and went into the parking lot. As several patrons left the restaurant, Trujillo allegedly confronted one of the patrons. Witnesses said Trujillo went to his vehicle and retrieved a handgun and began waiving the gun around and pointing it at the person he confronted in the parking lot. He then returned to his vehicle and attempted to leave, but was stopped by responding officers. Police said Trujillo became verbal abusive towards officers, spitting on the officers and then became physically confrontational. After a brief struggle, Trujillo was taken into custody and transported to Saugerties Police Headquarters. A search of Trujillo’s vehicle resulted in the discovery of a pellet gun replica of a Beretta 92 F 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Trujillo was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, second-degree menacing and removed to the Kingston Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
