It’s going to be a busy July in the village of Saugerties. Residents should be prepared for addition traffic congestion. There may be difficulties getting around in a vehicle.
Activities in the village kick off with the annual July Fourth parade. There will be a Saugerties Fire Department inspection at 8:30 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, July 4. Main Street will be blocked off. The inspection, where not only Saugerties fire department and its several fire companies, but a will involve not only the Saugerties department but other companies from neighboring towns.
Village trustees will inspect the line of firefighters and their trucks. The Saugerties Firefighter of the Year will also be named.
Main Street will reopen to traffic only for a short time. A number of roads in the downtown section of the village will be closed for the annual July 4 parade, which will kick off at noon and last for several hours.
The fireworks will, as always, be held at dusk on July 4 at Cantine Field.
On Thursday, July 6, the village Department of Public Works will shut down Washington Avenue for a paving project.
The crosswalk curbs at the intersections along the busy road to the high school and the HITS showgrounds have been completed. Residents and businesses along the road have been notified by letter about the closure and paving. For those that might have missed the notification, there is a big sign at the intersection of Washington and Main about the project.
And finally on July 9, Main and Partition Streets as well as a section of Market Street, and Main Street to John Street will be closed to traffic for the annual Sawyer Motors Car Show that begins at 1 p.m. and lasts until 6 p.m.
