The valedictorian of Saugerties High School, class of 2017, will be Anna Marie Armstrong. The salutatorian will be Lilith Haig. The two will be featured speakers at the 121st commencement ceremony held on Saturday, June 24 at 10 a.m. at the high school on Washington Ave. Ext.
Anna Marie Armstrong, daughter of Lori and Keith Armstrong, earned the honor with a four-year grade point average of 101.13. Her extracurricular activities include student government, serving as class president and treasurer; Key Club, where she was treasurer; National Honor Society, where she was president; student council, math team, varsity cross country and golf. She has volunteered as a teacher’s assistant and confirmation retreat team leader for her church and ballet center. Armstrong is considering attending Duke, Notre Dame or RPI to study mathematics, specifically actuarial science.
Lilith Haig, daughter of Joy and Christopher Haig, has a cumulative academic average of 101.012. Her extracurricular activities include National Honor Society, math team, Key Club and student council, where she was secretary. She was also captain of her varsity soccer team. Haig is undecided whether to attend Williams College or Hawaii Pacific University, to double major in psychology and neuroscience.
