State Senator John J. Bonacic announced that the Town of New Paltz has been awarded a $75,000 grant to make improvements to the town pool.
The pool is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day and serves over 35,000 visitors annually. In addition to the recreational opportunities, it also provides for 44 seasonal jobs, most of them for teens and young adults. The grant will go towards the repair of the pools liner.
“This $75,000 grant will help ensure that our residents will able to enjoy our town pool for years to come,” said New Paltz Supervisor Neil Bettez.
The pool opened late last year due to ongoing repairs, and its condition has been a concern for the local swimming community.
The funding was secured through the State and Municipal Facilities Program, money that was appropriated in the 2016-2017 state budget.
