New Paltz village trustees passed the annual resolution to waive parking meter fees during the holiday rush, and this year village workers will be complying with the village’s plastic bag ban. Instead, a card will be placed inside that obscures the time remaining with a “happy holidays” message.
In response to resident feedback, trustee Dennis Young asked about starting the free parking the day after Thanksgiving next year, but the mayor is not yet convinced it would be a good idea. He’s gotten mixed feedback from business owners, some of whom feel that unregulated parking results in residents simply leaving their cars out on the street all day and night. He has requested the director of the local Chamber of Commerce to survey members to find out what they think about a longer free parking period.
