The Friends of the Saugerties Public Library, in partnership with the Saugerties Public Library, have generously donated funds to purchase 12 “Little Free Libraries” for locations in Saugerties to be installed next spring. “Little Free Libraries” are small, neighborhood book exchanges that look like oversized bird houses. They allow the sharing of books and bring people together, creating communities of readers. The dollars the Friends of the Library are providing were partially funded by the Library Fair this summer, so the Little Free Libraries are the perfect example of how the Saugerties community is the true heart of our Saugerties Public Library. This is the first time Saugerties is participating in the program, joining the 36,000 others located around the world in 70 countries, including Iceland, Tasmania and Pakistan. The Friends of the Saugerties Library will provide the books. The goal is to place the libraries in neighborhoods that have the least access to the library in Saugerties.
