Meet Kingston’s new DPW boss
Joseph Chenier.
Joseph Chenier.

A former City of Poughkeepsie employee will take over as Kingston’s superintendent of public works.

Mayor Steve Noble announced Monday that Kingston resident Joseph Chenier would take over as head of the Department of Public Works on Sept. 19. Chenier will succeed former DPW chief Mike Schupp, who retired last month after seven years running the department.

Chenier has worked for the City of Poughkeepsie for 15 years and currently serves as an assistant civil engineer. According to Noble’s press release, Chenier holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from SUNY Binghamton and professional certifications in stormwater management, highway construction and erosion and sediment control. Chenier will take over DPW as the agency undergoes restructuring ordered by Noble to boost efficiency and streamline supervision. Key to the reorganization is the creation of three distinct divisions within the department for street maintenance, sewer and stormwater maintenance and parks maintenance.
