The Onteora Central School District Community suffered a loss on August 14 when high school student Madison Creagan passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile crash on the Ohio Turnpike.
As of press time, there is no official word on other family members who were involved in the accident.
A gofundme.com website has been created at https://www.gofundme.com/2jx2avmc by a cousin to help the family. The text on the site says, “The Creagan family was on a family vacation and involved in a tragic accident Sunday, August 14th. Lauren and Barry lost their beautiful daughter Madison and her little brother Justin is fighting for his life in critical condition. Also involved in the accident were father Barry, future stepmother Rebecca, and future stepsister Lilyana. Please pray for our family! This fund has been established to help the Creagan family defray some of the medical bills and funeral costs…”
According to the newspaper Toledo Blade, Creagan, 14, of West Shokan, was a passenger in one of the nine vehicles truck struck by a tractor-trailer about 2:15 p.m. Sunday while eastbound in an Ohio Turnpike construction zone near the State Rt. 4 interchange in Groton Township north of Bellevue.
The Blade said that the driver, Chavan Roosevelt Carter, 40, of Powder Springs, Ga., “was charged Monday with aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, and disregarding a traffic-control device, the patrol said in a statement. Bond was set at $100,000 during arraignment in Erie County Municipal Court in Milan, Ohio, and he remained in the Erie County jail afterward.”
