Boys’ State is a leadership action program for qualified high school juniors. The practical government course is designed to help the students develop a working knowledge of the structure of government and impresses upon them the fact that their government is what they make it.
Kevin Pendergast of American Legion Post #72 of Saugerties announced this year’s selections for local delegates. Nominated by the faculty of Saugerties High School and selected by the American Legion Boys’ State Committee are Jacob Johansen, son of Craig and Heather Johansen of Saugerties and Nicholas Dennis, son of David Dennis of Saugerties and Debra Dennis. Also selected were Martin Lopez, son of Martin and Yolonda Lopez of Mount Marion and Seth VanDerbeck, son of Robert and Holly VanDerbeck of Saugerties. Only young men with outstanding qualifications in leadership, character, scholarship, service and citizenship who have a serious attitude toward intensive citizenship training are selected. More than 1,000 young men from across the state will join together at the State University at Morrisville, New York beginning on June 26.
