Saugerties Junior High’s Builder’s Club raises funds, has fun

builders-club-HZTThe Saugerties Junior High School Builder’s Club, advised by English teacher Hope Antonelli, had a busy fall. From Nov. 1–20, the club sponsored a Junior High Home Room contest for its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, offering a breakfast to the homeroom with the most donations. Ms. Carolyn Munoz’s home room enjoyed their breakfast the day before Thanksgiving break. Thirteen boxes of food were collected for local families in the Saugerties community.

From Dec. 1–18, the Builder’s Club held its annual toy drive. The club, along with generous donations from the Kiwanis, Ms. Jennifer Denier and Ms. Kris Rothe, were able to deliver more than eight boxes of toys to Saugerties children who would otherwise go without.

After that, on Saturday, Dec. 19, club members past and present and their families took a trip to New York City. The city had plenty of Christmas activities, though the weather felt more like September.

The Builder’s Club is the junior high’s largest club. Since being established by Antonelli 15 years ago, it has undertaken many fundraisers to help the community.
