Twangy roots or gritty proto-indie rock? It is hard to say exactly what Cracker is; but whatever it is, they still are. In recent years, Cracker frontman and former Camper Van Beethoven main guy David Lowery has distinguished himself as one of the most lucid and penetrating critics of the music business in the digital age, but in 2014 Lowery reasserted his role as a maker with Cracker’s double-wide set Berkley to Bakersfield, one half of which features the rocking, jaundiced Cracker of “Low” and “Eurotrash Girl,” and the other half of which affirms the band’s careerlong love of country.
California’s own Cracker appears at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock on Saturday, August 15 at 9 p.m. Admission costs $25. For more information, visit www.bearsvilletheater.com. The Bearsville Theater is located at 291 Tinker Street in Woodstock.
