The Community Foundation of Saugerties will hold a Touch-a-Truck fundraiser on Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot at Cantine Field. Proceeds will benefit the replacement of equipment at Small World Playground. The event allows kids to touch, climb on, sit in and experience many of the trucks they see in their everyday lives, including fire trucks, dump trucks, Army Reserve equipment, sheriff’s mobile command post and dive tank, crane, limo, backhoe, zamboni, police cars, helicopter, rescue boats, DPW trucks, antique tractors, horse trailers and more. The event includes food, entertainment, children’s activities, crafts, bouncy houses, face painting, sand art, music and Roaming Railroad rides. Kids of all ages will have the opportunity to explore many different types of vehicles as well as meet their operators and enjoy numerous family-friendly activities.
The Foundation is currently running a logo design contest open to all Saugerties students in grades K-12. The winning design will proudly represent the new playground on promotional materials and may be incorporated into the playground design. Although the mail-in submittal deadline of June 1 has passed, it is not too late to submit a design in person at the Touch-a-Truck event. A winner will be announced at the playground reveal ceremony on July 4 at the Cantine complex.
Designers from Leathers and Associates will be in town to design the new playground on June 16. Since Saugerties has four elementary schools, Leathers is sending two designers and there will be the need for three teams of two apprentice designers to go into the remaining schools and solicit input from the students.
